The best would be to start with simple scenarios like the crabs scenario and trying to understand it yourself, if you have further questions make a discussion.

It probably would best for you to go over some of the Java trails (tutorials). You can find them here. The second section on the left (Trails Covering the Basics) would be the place to start.
