Not finding greenfoot interesting enough to "get into". Class of 23 boys don't like it either. I know it's because I don't like it etc, so how can I a) get so I like it and b) motivate this group of boys to want to learn it. Are there some interesting fun ways to teach this? We have gone through the tutorials and it has not inspired one lad to want to investigate further. I know this is a negative post and I am sorry, but we are struggling with it and I want to get to like it. Has anyone else had these initial issues and overcome them to be a fan?

Try looking through some of the things people have created with it! There are some amazing scenarios available. Some examples off the top of my head: I also have many scenarios - I don't want to say "Look at these they're cool", because that would make me sound arrogant, but some of them are quite fun :)

What did you decide to use instead to ignite the boys interest. ?. Greenfoot requires some understanding of programming, first time i tried i couldn't get to grips with Greenfoot. The problem was not greenfoot, the problem was my lack of experience using Java.

Well for my class, I am getting them to go through basics of making this game: http://www.greenfoot.org/scenarios/5799 I would suggest in you picking a type of game first and then attempt making it. That way you get to grips with it before you let your students loose on it
