There is more to making a game then just programming, you also need images sounds, levels, and a lot of other stuff as well. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a music-making program? Right now I am using Gimp for images, are their any better programs? I am using a mac and want freeware. Thanks in advance.

Gimp is pretty much the best free application for producing images. Another I sometimes use is Paint.NET, but only because it's better at certain very specifc tasks. For sound I'd highly recommend SFXR. It's for generating sound effects and is well known in the indie gaming community. There is a Mac port as well as ports for Flash and even JavaScript (although FireFox only) too.

For audio editing (and some effects) Audacity is very good. I often produce simple sound effects by recording a short sound from the microphone, and then applying a few effect filters in Audacity.

Thanks for your contributions! I already have audacity and have tried SFXR before, but thats not exactly what I'm looking for. I'm trying to fins something for making background music for my game rather than just sound effects.

If you download the adventure maker software, it comes with a quick but useful midi editor. Its great for making that 8 bit feel!

You can try FLStudio demo. It is a demo but it has 100% of the features, minus the ability to save projects. This can be bypassed by saving your songs as a Midi file and reopening them later though :P

I've used LMMS for music before. It has versions for windows and mac even though it has Linux in its name.
