I have a project that I want to export as a .jar file, so I press the share option, but I am met with only 2 options, publish scenario or .gfar project, no third option to export as application. Might it be outdated greenfoot version?

Option to export as application not available?
The opposite is the case - your Greenfoot version is too new. See the version history under version 3.8.2. No idea why they removed it, but I guess you can just install an older version.
I see, but now I export it as a .jar, but I can't run it? It won't run using java platform, double clicking the icon does nothing
